Sections In The LRC:
Non-Fiction Organization
Non-fiction books are organized using the Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDCS). This system was developed by Melvil Dewey, one the greatest librarians of all time. Dewey used 10 numerical categories to organize books by their subject matter. While the number identifies the category, the first 3 letters of the author's last name are also used for further classification.
The KG LRC will have signage for non-fiction books designating the location of Dewey sections:

Fiction Organization
Fiction is organized by using the first three letters of the author's last name.
THE CALL NUMBER WILL LOOK LIKE THIS FOR THE AUTHOR GARY PAULSEN:

- Non-fiction: books that are about real things - animals, countries, space, etc. (Shelved by Dewey Decimal numbers.)
- Fiction (F): books that are made up by the author
- YA: Young Adult books - grades 6 and up
- Digital Books, eBooks, & Audiobooks via SORA, E-Read Illinois & in LRC Collection: Contain fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, biographies . . .
- GN - Graphic Novels
- AB - Audiobooks
- DVD - Digital videodiscs (educational videos)
- Books in the LRC have labels located on the book's spine, easily visible when on the shelf.
- It contains the book's call number. This is the book's "address."
- This address will identify to the reader what type of book it is and where on the shelf it belongs.
- Materials are catalogued and can be located using Destiny Discover.
