Kelvin Grove LRC
Students attend the library each week at Kelvin Grove during their reading block. Students self-select print books (fiction and non-fiction) and are introduced to electronic reading formats via RAILS and Illinois State Library's eRead Illinois program. Students are provided one-on-one book selection assistance where needed/requested. Lessons and skillsets are provided, SSR is offered, and the LRC MakerSpace is open for use. The Kelvin LRC provides Centers & Stations, along with the TECH PETTING ZOO. #kglrc #Read91
2020 Highlights: Focus on READING
Perhaps it's not glitzy or glamorous, but it's so important that we support student reading and our reading community as a whole. Students need to see adults modeling reading -- and just exactly how do we do that? READ! The winter & spring focus will feature book tasting, book talks and ALL THINGS reading! Our goal is to match each student with books that "fit". E-books and print books alike will be offered to KG kids. Don't forget to support reading at home too! It's amazing what just 20 minutes per day can do! (See graphic below!)

StarLab in the KG LRC - THIS WAS FUN!!!
About Star Lab
The StarLab is a portable planetarium designed for all ages, kindergarten through adult.
The StarLab is valued at over $14,000, but through a reasonable rental fee from the Will County Regional Office of Education / Professional Development Alliance.
With the StarLab interactive experience as a learning tool, we can engage students with a wide range of lessons including science, geography and astronomy AND the software meets current Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), too! Ask your student what they liked about StarLab in the LRC!
The Kelvin Grove LRC & MakerSpace collection will be growing this January (per student request), so that students can also check out (and bring home) various artifacts along with books and audiobooks. KG students now have access to both eRead Illinois electronic books and Biblioboard e-book services, in addition to the traditional print collection in our school library. (E-books are accessible through kgcyberlibrary.weebly.com on any device connected to the Internet.)
If you have any gently-used items on our wish-list below that you're willing to donate to the KG LRC, please send them in with Kelvin Grove students or drop them off at Kelvin Grove School (Door 2) Monday-Friday between 7:30 am-4:00 pm.
Here's our #KGLRC WISH LIST:
~ Board games / card games (Uno, etc) / chess sets
~ DVDs (family-oriented please)
~ Video games (retro and current) for all gaming console types
~ Rubik's Cubes
Thanks so very much for always supporting our students.
