Online Sources: Evaluating Credibility

Evaluate Credibility of Online Sources

Students use Google search to find an article online and ask key questions— WHO is the author? WHAT is the author’s point of view? WHEN was the article written? WHERE does the author get their information? WHY did the author write the article?—to evaluate the credibility of its source.

Great for: Learning how to ask key questions to evaluate the credibility of a source.

FACT CHECKING

Truth or Fiction   Email reality check... Good starting point for finding out about false news.
Snopes   Rumor has it... Wait, was that false news or the truth?
Factcheck.org   "A nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics." -- self described
PolitiFact   "A project of the Tampa Bay Times and its partners to help you find the truth in politics." -- self-described.
